About
In the header/title picture of the blog you can’t tell if those two little feet are jumping off the ledge or falling. You just see two little feet in total abandon. I assure you that little girl was jumping intentionally. She loves being awake. And while awake she loves jumping.
When I look at the picture to the left I see an awake and sober little mind. Jaya, my daughter, loves the day. She loves being awake to jump, dance, sing, talk, laugh, and tickle her little brother. She acts just like a child should act during the day.
Paul tells the Thessalonians, “For you are children of the light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.”
This is an exhortation given specifically in light of Jesus’ imminent return (5:1-3). We are to keep Jesus’ return in mind and wait for it. Therefore, we are to stay awake and remain sober! As Christians we are children of the day. We are to be doing the things of the day. Jaya was captured in this photo doing what a little girl should be doing in the middle of the day. I pray that Jesus’ return also finds us doing, thinking, and being what we should as children of the day.
My hope is that this blog will help others think soberly about issues in the home, church, and society. As you browse or subscribe to The Sober Mind I hope you find yourself awakened and encouraged to remain sober as you wait for Jesus’ return. I also hope to share my own attempt to be so.
